Graham LS5/9
This monitor is tailored for BBC's smaller studios and control rooms, offering a sound quality comparable to its larger counterpart, the LS5/8, making it also suitable for home use. Its design allows for the unveiling of new details in well-known music tracks, thanks to its open and vibrant mid-range.
Under the guidance of Derek Hughes, this classic BBC design has been revitalized. In collaboration with Volt Loudspeakers, a new bass/midrange driver was developed, featuring a robust die-cast aluminium frame and a large motor system, coupled with a polypropylene diaphragm of a specific grade and a high-quality rubber surround. Volt hand-assembles and tests each bass driver.
The monitor also features a carefully chosen Audax 34mm soft dome tweeter, safeguarded by a sturdy metal grille, and a complex crossover network that harmoniously integrates the components and fine-tunes the sound for peak performance in open spaces.
Constructed in the UK, the cabinet embodies the traditional BBC "thinwall" design, made from superior 9mm birch plywood, with expertly matched veneers finished to an exceptionally high standard. Hardwood batons reinforce all joints for durability and airtightness, while mass-loading and Rockwool insulation, secured by fabric, minimize resonances and ensure sound dampening. The grille, crafted from a single 9mm birch plywood piece, attaches seamlessly via concealed rare-earth magnets.
